Acculturation, Immigrant Identity, and Achievement of the African Caribbean Population in the United States: Application of the Stereotype Threat Paradigm
Abstract: The purpose of the present research is to examine relationships among immigrant identity, ethnic/racial stereotypes, and cognitive test performance among African Caribbean respondents to the National Survey American Life. Contrary to stereotype threat theory, negative associations between endorsement of denigrating racial or ethnic stereotypes and cognitive test performance were found.
