Remote Acculturation and Nutrition in Urban Jamaican Families
Abstract: This talk presents questionnaire data regarding remote acculturation toward U.S. culture among 330 adolescents-mother dyads in Kingston, Jamaica. Stronger American identity/behavior predicted each individual’s unhealthy eating, mediated by watching more U.S. cable. Mothers’ Americanization and U.S. cable viewing also predicted their daughters’ unhealthy eating. Implications for prevention/intervention will be discussed. (Count 50/50)
